Jason Powell, PT, DPT

Physical Therapist Clinical Director/Clinical Staff Supervisor

Jason graduated with a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Samuel Merritt University. He also received a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from the University of Puget Sound. While at Puget Sound, Jason minored in Mathematics and Chemistry while playing baseball and graduated as a Coolidge Otis Chapman Honors Program Scholar. As an undergraduate and graduate student, Jason completed a senior thesis on combination strength training techniques in the male athlete, assisted in research for anti-gravity treadmill training in patients with neurological disorders, and studied neuro-dynamic abnormalities in patients with orthopedic dysfunction. Jason is a Redwood City native attending St. Pius elementary and later high school at Sacred Heart Preparatory in Atherton, CA. Jason also is a high school varsity assistant baseball coach at Menlo School in Atherton, CA. While not at work, Jason and his wife enjoy raising their daughter, playing recreational team sports, and watching TV and movies.

Remy Arnold, PT, DPT, CSCS

Physical Therapist

Remy graduated from Saint Louis University (SLU) with both his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. While at SLU Remy minored in Spanish and Interprofessional Practice and spent 5 months living in Spain. He is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Graston Technique provider, Myofascial Decompression (Cupping Therapy) provider, and Kinesio Tape trained practitioner. Remy played competitive soccer for much of his life with the local club, Juventus, then played rugby in college. He is a Redwood City native, going to middle school at Nativity School and high school at Bellarmine College Prep. In his free time Remy is a fitness enthusiast, loves everything outdoors from backpacking to skiing to scuba diving, traveling, and spending time with his family.

Jake Schur, PT, DPT

Physical Therapist

Jake has been interested in pursuing a career in physical therapy since high school, going on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from the Pennsylvania State University in 2015, and his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Arcadia University in 2019. Along the way, he developed an interest in research, having a research study on strength testing published in Clinical Biomechanics. When he graduated, Jake spent some time close to home, working in Philadelphia, after which he set out as a travel therapist, having worked in Delaware, Wyoming, and now here in California. When he’s not busy on a road trip, Jake loves to spend his time cooking (and trying tons of new restaurants!), as well as watching Penn State, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Philadelphia 76ers.

Jessica Henning PT, DPT

Physical Therapist

Jessica was born and raised in Wisconsin and graduated with a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Concordia University Wisconsin in 2017. Following graduation, she lived and worked in Visalia, CA for three years before pursuing travel work. Jessica is a board-certified specialist in orthopedic physical therapy. In her free time, Jessica likes to stay active with running, backpacking, and long walks in the mountains.

Michelle Crane-Robba – PTA

Physical Therapy Assistant

Michelle graduated from and received her license from Sonoma College in 2007. Additionally, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Motion Picture from Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California. She was born and raised in San Jose, California but has lived abroad, teaching English in Japan. She is certified as both a Myofascial Decompression and Graston Technique clinician. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, mountain biking and cooking.

Cody Kwong

Cody graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. Cody is a native Californian born and raised in San Francisco. He has goals of becoming a physical therapist in the near future and enjoys his interactions with patients. In his spare time he partakes in biking, lifting weights, and experiencing new things.

Alexandra Esparza

Physical Therapy Aide

Alex graduated from San Francisco State University with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. Alex is a California girl, who was born and raised in the East Bay. She is currently attending Chabot College online to complete the Medical Assistant program, while taking a few extra classes to prepare her nursing school applications. Within the past couple of years, Alex has discovered a deep passion for dance, specifically Mexican folk dance. She currently dances with Ballet Folklorico Mexico Danza in Hayward. In her free time, Alex enjoys trying new recipes in the kitchen and tending to her garden. She loves going on hikes, swimming, and playing with her cats and dogs.

Austin Chan

Physical Therapy Aide

Austin graduated from UCLA, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. Currently, he is looking to pursue a career in nursing and become a Registered Nurse. Austin has lived in the Bay Area his entire life and attended James Logan High School in Union City. Throughout much of his life, Austin was an avid wrestler and competed at a high level for many years. He is a huge Golden State Warriors and San Francisco 49ers fan and loves competitive sports in general. In his free time, Austin enjoys exploring the outdoors, playing pickup sports, and going white water rafting.

Kate De Castro

Physical Therapy Aide

Kate graduated from UC Santa Cruz with a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology. She has had the opportunity to volunteer abroad in the Philippines and Guatemala, where she helped local physicians provide medical care in rural areas. Her goal is to become a physician assistant (PA), working primarily in underserved communities. Kate enjoys traveling, hiking, singing karaoke, taking photos on her film camera, and spending time with family, friends, and her dog, Obi.

Howard Lieberman – MA

Business Operations

Howard has over 30 years of clinical experience in spine and extremity musculoskeletal rehabilitation. He is a graduate of UCLA and San Jose State University and possesses a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology. Howard was one of the founders of STAR Physical Therapy in 1994. He specializes in the design of physical training programs specifically related to orthopedic rehabilitation and preparation for rigorous outdoor activities. He is certified as a “Rock Doc” for Kinesio taping and RockBlades instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM). For forty years, Howard has been an avid skier, backpacker, mountain biker/cyclist and trail runner. He is also a licensed private pilot. Howard continues to spend as much time as possible with his wife and two daughters enjoying the high mountains and all types of outdoor adventures.

Dwayne Moore

Clinical Operations

Dwayne has over 30 years of Healthcare Administration and Management experience. He a native Californian, born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. He attended the University of California Santa Barbara and San Francisco State University. He has coached youth soccer for over 17 years at various skill levels ranging from recreation leagues, club teams and high school teams. He is an avid Oakland A’s fan and a soccer (real football) fan. In his spare time he loves cooking, hiking, coaching and a good sci-fi book.

Stephanie Thorpe

Front Office Manager

Stephanie is the Office and Insurance Administrator for STAR Physical Therapy. She has over 18 years of medical office experience and is an expert in physical therapy benefits for private, worker’s compensation, and Medicare insurance plans. She will be happy to assist you with any scheduling or insurance questions you may have. In her spare time, Stephanie enjoys spending time with her two grandchildren, family, friends and RVing with her husband.

Celyn Alaras

Administrative Staff

Celyn graduated from California State University, East Bay with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health. She was born and raised in Hayward, California and is continuing her education to become a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer. She has a passion for dancing Hula and Tahitian. Celyn has competed and performed in different states as well as at Polynesian Night for the San Francisco Giants and Golden State Warriors. She loves spending time with family and friends, binge watching a good TV series (Grey’s Anatomy!) and spending time outdoors. She loves taking long walks and going to the beach.
