Jason Powell, PT DPT

Jason graduated with a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Samuel Merritt University. He also received a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from the University of Puget Sound. While at Puget Sound, Jason minored in Mathematics and Chemistry while playing baseball and graduated as a Coolidge Otis Chapman Honors Program Scholar. As an undergraduate and graduate student, Jason completed a senior thesis on combination strength training techniques in the male athlete, assisted in research for anti-gravity treadmill training in patients with neurological disorders, and studied neuro-dynamic abnormalities in patients with orthopedic dysfunction. Jason is a Redwood City native attending St. Pius elementary and later high school at Sacred Heart Preparatory in Atherton, CA. Jason also is a high school varsity assistant baseball coach at Menlo School in Atherton, CA. While not at work, Jason and his wife enjoy raising their daughter, playing recreational team sports, and watching TV and movies.

Jessica Henning PT DPT

Physical Therapist

Jessica was born and raised in Wisconsin and graduated with a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Concordia University Wisconsin in 2017. Following graduation, she lived and worked in Visalia, CA for three years before pursuing travel work. Jessica is a board-certified specialist in orthopedic physical therapy. In her free time Jessica likes to stay active with running, backpacking, and long walks in the mountains.

Ady Barraza, PT DPT

Physical Therapist

Ady is a native of the Kansas City metro area. She graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Exercise Science from Ottawa University, where she played collegiate soccer and lacrosse. Ady then went on to pursue her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at Rockhust University in Kansas City. Upon graduating, she decided to pursue travel physical therapy, as she loves traveling, experiencing new adventures and meeting people. Ady is also an avid soccer fan, music lover, and enjoys just about any type of physical activity, especially if it is outdoors.

Shaya Hancock, DPT ATC CSCS

Physical Therapist

Shaya attended Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas where she received her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. She continued her education at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center where she received her Master of Athletic Training degree. Afterward, she returned to Harding University to serve as the Women’s Athletic Trainer and as an athletic training instructor in the Exercise and Sport Sciences Department for six years. During this time, she also received her Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification. Deciding to further her education once more, she attended Washington University in St. Louis where she received her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. She has worked in her home state of Oklahoma since her graduation from PT school and just recently decided to start travel physical therapy. In her free time, she enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with her nieces and nephews.

Michelle Crane-Robba, PTA

Physical Therapy Assistant

Michelle graduated from and received her license from Sonoma College in 2007. Additionally, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Motion Picture from Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California. She was born and raised in San Jose, California but has lived abroad, teaching English in Japan. She is certified as both a Myofascial Decompression and Graston Technique clinician. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, mountain biking and cooking.

Kate De Castro

Physical Therapy Aide

Kate graduated from UC Santa Cruz with a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology. She has had the opportunity to volunteer abroad in the Philippines and Guatemala, where she helped local physicians provide medical care in rural areas. Her goal is to become a physician assistant (PA), working primarily in underserved communities. Kate enjoys traveling, hiking, singing karaoke, taking photos on her film camera, and spending time with family, friends, and her dog, Obi.

Alex Chang

Physical Therapy Aide

Alex is currently enrolled as an undergraduate at San Francisco State University, working towards a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology. Alex is from California, born and raised in San Francisco. He is looking forward to becoming a physical therapist after completing his undergraduate degree, obtaining experience in the field, and then applying to and completing physical therapy training in graduate school. In his spare time, Alex enjoys being in nature, cooking and baking, and is always curious to experience and learn new things.

Raelene Parker

Physical Therapy Aide

Raelene was born and raised in San Jose, California and is a Howard University graduate with a pre-med Bachelor of Science degree in Nutritional Sciences. Having a passion for all things related to holistic health, she remains interested in community nutrition while now preparing for physical therapy graduate school. During her free time, Raelene enjoys participating in unusual and interesting hobbies such as knitting, thrifting, dorodango, and polymer clay crafts. Her latest interests have included roller skating, natural food foraging, and following UFC competitions.

Andrew Goyeneche

Physical Therapy Aide

Andrew was born in South Carolina and moved to California when he was 6 years old. He is currently enrolled at Ohlone Community College and plans on transferring to Cal State East Bay or Sacramento State University to complete his Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. He hopes to eventually attend graduate school and become a physical therapist. Andrew has gone on mission trips to the Philippines and Navajo Nation to volunteer for those in need in these communities. In his spare time, he enjoys playing basketball, video games, working on cars, and going to the beach and camping.

Howard Lieberman, MA

Business Operations

Howard has over 30 years of clinical experience in spine and extremity musculoskeletal rehabilitation. He is a graduate of UCLA and San Jose State University and possesses a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology. Howard was one of the founders of STAR Physical Therapy in 1994. He specializes in the design of physical training programs specifically related to orthopedic rehabilitation and preparation for rigorous outdoor activities. He is certified as a “Rock Doc” for Kinesio taping and RockBlades instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM). For forty years, Howard has been an avid skier, backpacker, mountain biker/cyclist and trail runner. He is also a licensed private pilot. Howard continues to spend as much time as possible with his wife and two daughters enjoying the high mountains and all types of outdoor adventures.

Dwayne Moore

Clinical Operations

Dwayne has over 30 years of Healthcare Administration and Management experience. He a native Californian, born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. He attended the University of California Santa Barbara and San Francisco State University. He has coached youth soccer for over 17 years at various skill levels ranging from recreation leagues, club teams and high school teams. He is an avid Oakland A’s fan and a soccer (real football) fan. In his spare time he loves cooking, hiking, coaching and a good sci-fi book.

Stephanie Thorpe

Front Office Manager

Stephanie is the Office and Insurance Administrator for STAR Physical Therapy. She has over 18 years of medical office experience and is an expert in physical therapy benefits for private, worker’s compensation, and Medicare insurance plans. She will be happy to assist you with any scheduling or insurance questions you may have. In her spare time, Stephanie enjoys spending time with her two grandchildren, family, friends and RVing with her husband.

Aseya Qayum

Aseya is a fourth-year university student at Grand Canyon University and will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Healthcare Administration. Her ultimate career goal is to help patients achieve a better understanding of their healthcare options and assist them in navigating the complex healthcare system. Aseya enjoys traveling, cooking, spending time with family and friends, and exploring new places with loved ones. She hopes to eventually work and serve in a hospital that provides pro bono healthcare for patients in need.
